| 1 August 2003 marked a new milestone in
Kolej Antarabangsa Genting’s calendar. It was the college’s
inaugural convocation. Eleven students from the first and
second batches were awarded with the Diploma in Hotel
Management of which four achieved distinction, and seven
others the Certificate, including a sponsored employee by
Resorts World Bhd, Genting Highlands Resort. Fourty Sijil
Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) graduates too received their scrolls
at the ceremony. KAG is supported by
the world’s oldest and foremost hospitality institute Ecole
hoteliere de Lausanne (EHL), Switzerland. Perhaps, it was more
than a mere coincidence that the convocation was on 1 August –
also the National Day of Switzerland.
In his speech, the Director of Lausanne
Hospitality Consulting Mr Yateendra Sinh stressed that as
graduates built their careers, there would always be three
things that would guide them: their education, common sense
and joie de vivre (French for the joy of living). He urged
graduates to resort to common sense whenever in doubt as they
embarked on their first job. “Simple solutions are often the
most feasible ones,” he added.
YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Alwi Jantan, Director of
KAG, expressed his optimism that the number of students would
continue to increase as KAG intended to have a good mixture of
local and foreign students. Today, apart from local students,
KAG also has students from China, Hong Kong, Indonesia and
India.
KAG graduates can now transfer their credits
to Griffith University in Australia for Bachelor of Hotel
Management and Oxford Brookes University in the United Kingdom
for BSc Hotel & Restaurant Management or BSc (Hons)
International Hospitality Management.
The next intake for diploma and certificate
